New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) empowers donors and volunteers to improve the lives of partner families and the New Orleans community by building safe, affordable homes for hard working families. NOAHH makes home ownership possible by providing “a hand up not a handout,” helping to break the poverty cycle for families who are willing to participate in building their own success.
Lacking a significant upgrade in over four years, NOAHH needed a contemporary website platform that informed, inspired and accelerated action from their core target groups: donations from supporters, time commitments from volunteers, and inquiries and applications from prospective partner families and their communities. Additionally, by emphasizing their presence as a local entity rather than an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the site needed to differentiate NOAHH from other non-profit and for-profit affordable housing providers that have crowded the marketplace in recent years.
Our team of developers, writers, designers and project managers addressed these concerns by creating a cohesive, consistent and engaging user experience through the site’s content, design and structure. We reshaped the content and tone to accommodate the various users; we reorganized the navigational elements to encourage organic exploration of the website and make it easy to identify next steps; we optimized the site for mobile, utilizing a responsive design targeted toward a multi-device ecosystem; and we applied a visual style that is textural, emotive and classic, which unifies the site and creates a sense of aspiration and compassion.
The new site has been well received by many. It has allowed NOAHH to quickly update and add content, attract and feature sponsors, and educate potential volunteers. Additionally, completed online applications have significantly increased, which means more families are closer to becoming homeowners.
